Partner, Sophia Rolle-Kapousouzoglou, speaks at the 2026 International Caribbean Insolvency Symposium

Recently, Lennox Paton Partner, Sophia Rolle-Kapousouzoglou, was invited to speak as a panelist at the American Banking Institute’s (ABI) 2026 International Caribbean Insolvency Symposium, held January 14th-16th, 2026 in Grand Cayman.  Sophia shared her insolvency expertise as a panelist on the panel discussion themed “Hot Off The Blockchain:  Current Crypto Case Law, ” which proved to be a highlight of the event.  

The panel explored emerging frameworks for classifying digital assets, namely the treatment of cryptocurrency under the GENIUS Act and the DARE Act (As amended) and the resulting implications for priority, setoff, and the distinction between customer and estate property. Panelists analyzed recent landmark decisions, including In re Prime Core and Celsius,and FTX  examining what qualifies as property of the estate, the scope of constructive trusts and tracing principles, and how rights are allocated among customers, lenders, and estate fiduciaries. The discussion also addressed the evolving legal status of stablecoins, including whether super-priority liens may supersede attorneys’ retaining or charging liens, and reviewed the most recent FTX rulings concerning sanctions, OFAC compliance, and the permissibility of creditor transfers in restricted jurisdictions such as China and Russia. Sophia was joined on the panel by James L. Bromley (Sullivan & Cromwell), Eleanor Fisher (Teneo), and Gregg Steinman (McDermott Will & Schulte LLP).  Together, the panelists offered a practical, cross-border framework for advising clients and litigating crypto-related insolvency matters.
