Jody’s practice covers a variety of commercial and civil litigation, including insolvency, trusts, contract, banking, commercial crimes, employment and personal injury. An associate in our Litigation Group, she has appeared as Junior Counsel in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal in The Bahamas and has worked along with international legal teams in international cases. A highlight of her career was being junior counsel for an international financial institution in an arbitration that involved a multi-jurisdictional dispute involving stock securities.

  • West Bay Management v. Registrar of Trade Unions – acted as junior counsel in a judicial review application regarding the legitimacy of a trade union
  • Ebbvale Limited (In Liquidation) – acted as junior counsel for the Liquidator in seeking approval for a settlement agreement for the liquidation of a Bahamian IBC and provided advice regarding other issues emanating from the liquidation
  • Junior counsel in litigation involving the misappropriation of funds from an international company
  • Advised a trust company whether it had a right to seek directions from the Supreme Court of The Bahamas for a matter involving a mentally incapacitated client
  • Provided legal advice regarding the creation of an irrevocable trust and possible implications that may arise from matrimonial property
  • Provided legal advice for various employment law issues including redundancy, severance pay, unfair dismissal, job abandonment and the rescission of employment contracts
  • Advised a liquidator whether the Supreme Court of The Bahamas would recognise a judgment from English insolvency proceedings
  • Provided legal advice regarding the rights of an innocent third party whose assets possibly originated from Bernard Madoff’s fraudulent scheme and would be subject to a claim from the Trustee in Bankruptcy
